This is terrifying.
Two sisters have a new-found appreciation for life after they successfully fought off a man who broke into their home and attempted to murder both of them. The N.Y. Daily News reported that Bre and Kayli Lasley managed to fight off Robert Berger until police arrived.
Bre, 27, was working at her computer and kept hearing whispering coming from her window, so she finally got up to investigate.
“I heard his voice and he just said, ‘Hey girl, I’m coming in,” Bre said.
Berger had opened the window with a broom and gotten into the house.
“He said, ‘You either cooperate with me or I’m going downstairs to get your little sister,’” Bre stated. “He put his left hand over my mouth and started punching me in the stomach.”
Bre screamed for her 22-year-old sister, and the two struggled with Berger. Both sisters managed to call 911, which only made Berger even madder.
Berger stabbed Bre in the stomach repeatedly, and tried to stab her in multiple other places but miraculously kept missing.
“I remember looking down at my body and looking up at the knife and thinking, ‘Why isn’t this working?’” Bre said, recounting the experience. “There was something there protecting me. There was a shield over my body … there’s no way it could’ve been anything else beside a higher power.”
A police officer who had been in the neighborhood soon arrived and put an end to Berger.
“Right when (the suspect) flexed, that’s when the officer shot, taking his life and saving mine. His arm went like a noodle and he fell to the ground,” said Bre.
Berger had been released from jail only a week earlier.
