Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly has joined the list of those threatening to “flee the country” if one candidate or another gets elected to the White House during this election cycle. But just who is O’Reilly exercised about? And where is he “fleeing,” anyway?Speaking on his O’Reilly Factor show, O’Reilly jumped with both feet on self-professed socialist Bernie Sanders and said if Sanders wins, O’Reilly is out of here.
O’Reilly said he is “fleeing to Ireland” if he ends up being forced to pay “90 percent of his taxes” to “that guy.”
“I’m fleeing. If Bernie Sanders gets elected president, I’m fleeing,” O’Reilly said during his program. “I’m going to Ireland. And they already know it. I shouldn’t say it publicly because that’ll get Sanders more votes. But I’m not gonna pay 90 percent of my income to that guy, I’m sorry I’m not doing it.”
O’Reilly, whose nightly program is the top-rated and most-watched show on all of cable news, isn’t the first person to claim he’ll leave the country if one candidate or another gets elected, of course.
Remember the mass Hollywood exodus that was supposed to occur if George W. Bush was elected in 2000?
That list included Hollywooders such as director Robert Altman and actor Alec Baldwin, as well as Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, gossip columnist Mitchell Fink, and left-wing actresses and singers Barbra Streisand and Cher, among others.
For the record, not one of them followed through on their hyperbolic claims once Bush beat Al Gore in 2000 and then won re-election in 2004 by defeating John Kerry.
Oh well…..maybe next time.
