Good for him!
Republicans have been giving Hillary Clinton ammunition to use against them by stating publicly that the House committee investigating the terrorist attack in Benghazi is actually a smear campaign designed to lower Clinton’s poll numbers.
The Washington Examiner reported that the chairman of the Benghazi Committee, Trey Gowdy, went public with two words that summed up how he feels about all this political sniping.
“Shut up,” said Gowdy.
“I have told my own Republican colleagues and friends, ‘shut up talking about things that you don’t know anything about,’” he said.
“Unless you’re on the committee you have no idea what we’ve done, why we’ve done it, and what new facts we have found,” Gowdy said in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday.
Recent statements by House majority leader Kevin McCarthy and a former staffer on the committee have had some media and political figures questioning the true intentions of this committee.
“The seven members of my committee are much more focused on the four dead Americans than we are anyone’s presidential aspirations,” Gowdy stated, responding to the claims that the committee is out to get Clinton.
Gowdy defended the committee he chairs, stating, “Actually there’s no evidence,” to corroborate claims that the committee is a political witch hunt.
Gowdy asserted that when former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testifies on Thursday, his goal is to find out what she knew leading up the attack, as well as to find out why the pleas from Ambassador Christopher Stevens, who was killed in the attack, went unanswered.
“While violence was going up in Libya, why was our security going down?” asked Gowdy.
