Before the Olympian formerly known as Bruce Jenner tried to capture the hearts and minds of progressives and LGBT activists around the world by transforming into a woman, he was involved in a vehicle accident in February that left one person dead.
The gross amount of media attention surrounding Jenner’s transformation seemed to sweep the horrific details of the Pacific Coast Highway crash under the proverbial rug — at least for a while.
According the Associated Press, sheriff’s investigators looking into the fatal multi-vehicle accident have now recommended that Jenner be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, reported that investigators found that Jenner’s driving was “unsafe for the prevailing road conditions,” which caused Jenner’s vehicle to push the one in front of it into oncoming traffic.
Kim Howe, the deceased 69-year-old driver of the Lexus pushed into traffic by Jenner’s vehicle, was struck by a Hummer as it entered the intersection as a result of the collision.
Should Jenner be charged and found guilty, it could mean up to a one-year stint in the county jail — probably the last place that a transgendered former athlete wants to call home.
