It was only a matter of time before gender-neutral bathrooms, the bathrooms that liberal, LGBT activists fought so hard for, were exploited by perverts.
According to the Toronto Star, the University of Toronto is reducing the number of gender-neutral bathrooms in campus dorms after voyeurs were caught filming women in the showers by holding their smartphones over the top of the shower stall dividers.
Toronto Police Constable Victor Kwong said two women reported separate incidents of being recorded while taking showers at a university residence called Whitney Hall. According to Varsity campus newspaper, the incidents took place on Sept. 15 and Sept. 19.
In response to the voyeurism incidents, the dean of students at University College, Melinda Scott, has ordered that most of the restrooms be reverted back to their original designations for men and women.
But the response was weak, at best. The measures to revert back to male and female restrooms was said to be a “temporary measure” by Scott and at least one gender-neutral bathroom remains on each floor of the residence.
“The purpose of this temporary measure is to provide a safe space for the women who have been directly impacted by the incidents of voyeurism and other students who may feel more comfortable in a single-gender washroom,” Scott said.
This time, it was a pervert trying to get shower footage of women. The odds of something worse happening next time are even greater now since Scott made it clear that she’s not interested in permanently protecting her female students from perverts who will “self-identify” as a woman just to get closer to their prey.
