It was the perfect media story: a Muslim convert fighting so-called Islamaphobia by posing in a London protest with a sign that invited passers by to give him a hug. What could possibly go wrong?
Plenty, if the U.K. Daily Mail is to be believed. It turns out that the Muslim in question, a North London resident named Craig Wallace, has an extensive rap sheet and threatened to bomb a Conservative member of Parliament whom he believed to be anti-Muslim.
The 23-year-old Wallace came to the attention of the media during Stop The War protests at Parliament over proposed British airstrikes in Syria last week.
He carried a sign that said, “I am Muslim, I am labelled a terrorist, I trust you, do you trust me enough for a hug?”
Wallace, who calls himself Muhammad Mujahid Islam online, had a less peaceful take for a Tory MP whom he disliked.
“I’m going to smash her windows then drop a bomb on her house while she’s tucked up in bed. You dirty f****** pig-s******* s***,” he said of MP Charlotte Leslie, who supported the airstrikes.
“I’m going to find her and show her what it’s like to murder innocents. You dirty pig-f****** w****,” Wallace also wrote the day after the vote.
Wallace’s comments were seen by Leslie’s father, who notified authorities. Wallace was charged with sending threatening communications and pled guilty Monday in court. He’ll remain in custody until his Dec. 30 sentencing.
His lawyer, Abu Sayeed, told the Hendon Magistrates’ Court that his client had been up for “two or three days and had very little sleep and had not taken his medication”…
