Donald Trump might be picking up support in early polls, but don’t count GOP Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) among those pulling for the Republican presidential front-runner.

Appearing last week on “Arizona Horizon,” a local PBS show, Flake called Trump’s campaign “laughable” and questioned whether his candidacy should be considered seriously.

“My feelings about Mr. Trump and his candidacy are probably well known: I’ve not been a fan,” Flake said. “I don’t think it’s a very serious candidacy, frankly.”

Flake said that if Trump wants to be taken seriously, he needs to concretely state his policy beliefs, especially on immigration.

“The statement, ‘I’m going to build a wall and force the Mexican government to pay for it,’ these statements range from offensive to simply laughable,” he said.

Flake also defended his Arizona colleague, Sen. John McCain (R), whom Trump said wasn’t a true war hero because he was just a prisoner of war.

“It’s the most ridiculous statement I ever heard,” Flake added.

Flake chalked Trump’s lead in Arizona up to how early it is in the 2016 campaign cycle.
