The Department of Justice will not file any charged against Lois Lerner, putting and end to its investigation into the former IRS official.
Lerner, you’ll recall, was the official at the center of the scandal about the IRS targeting conservative groups, but as CNN reported this afternoon, the DOJ found “substantial evidence of mismanagement, poor judgment and institutional inertia,” but concluded “poor management is not a crime.”
They didn’t find any evidence that Lerner or any other IRS official had “inappropriate motives” in scrutinizing groups applying for tax-exempt status.
“Based on the evidence,” their letter today reads, “developed in this investigation and the recommendation of experienced career prosecutors and supervising attorneys at the department, we are closing our investigation and will not seek any criminal charges.”
