Phoenix Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest draws rage of Islamists

A former U.S. Marine and anti-Islam supporter has organized a “Freedom of Speech” rally and a Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest outside the Islamic Community Center in Phoenix.

The rally is described as peaceful, but the Facebook event does encourage supporters to bring guns in anticipation of any backlash. Several law enforcement agencies have met to discuss safety procedures along with the Council on American-Islamic Relations Phoenix Chapter.

A similar cartoon contest was held in Texas earlier this month. Two men, both from Phoenix and believed to be ISIS sympathizers, opened fire outside the event before being shot and killed by police. This rally is planned in response to the Texas incident, according to the Facebook event page.
