This reaction is absolutely perfect!
Former President George W. Bush was leaving a dinner in Washington and stopped to sign some autographs this week when he was asked what he thought about Kanye West running for president in 2020.
George Bush’s reaction was priceless. He just laughed, twice, before heading back to his car.
TMZ was there and was able to catch the brief exchange. However, reporters were unable to get a comment from Bush.
West made waves when he announced that he was going to run for president at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Surprisingly, this announcement came almost 10 years to the day that he attacked President Bush on national television during a live segment.
During a telethon benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, on September 2, 2005, West went completely off script.
“I hate the way they portray us in the media,” he said. “If you see a black family, it says, ‘They’re looting.’ You see a white family, it says, ‘They’re looking for food.’ And you know that it’s been five days because most of the people are black.’
Kanye then added, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” before walking off stage.
Bush did not take kindly to that comment, later calling it “one of the most disgusting moments” of his presidency.
West apologized for his actions in a 2010 interview with Today, saying he “would tell George Bush in my moment of frustration, I didn’t have the grounds to call him a racist. I believe that in a situation of high emotion like that we as human beings don’t always choose the right words.”
