This is criminally insane.
It was recently announced by President Barack Obama’s Justice Department that it would be releasing 6,000 convicted felons as part of a plan to reform sentencing guidelines for drug offenses.
It has now been revealed that about 2,000 of those convicted felons scheduled to be released are actually illegal immigrants who should be deported back to their home countries.
The news has raised the concerns of Republican Sens. Jeff Flake, Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson, who wrote to Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson demanding answers.
Due to recent reports of crimes illegal immigrants have committed against American citizens when they shouldn’t even be here, the senators want assurances that the Obama administration is doing everything possible to ensure such tragedies don’t continue to occur.
“As you are no doubt aware, recent tragedies have raised widespread concerns regarding the handling of criminal alien cases,” the senators wrote in the letter dated Oct. 13.
“For example, Apolinar Altamirano has been charged with murdering Grant Ronnebeck, a convenience store clerk in Mesa, Arizona, after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began removal proceedings but allowed Altamirano to post $10,000 bond.”
The senators declared that preventing crime by illegal immigrants was an obligation of both the Justice Department and DHS and demanded more information regarding efforts to ensure that criminal illegals are promptly deported after they have served their prison terms.
