In an appearance before over 7,000 evangelical Christians in Plano, Texas, GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson issued a clarion call for followers of Christ to step up and become more active in defending the freedom of religion.
“It is time to bring God back into our country,” Carson said in his appearance before the Faith and Freedom Coalition Forum. “Our faith gives us our freedom.”
According to Breitbart, Carson credited the Almighty with making him the man he is.
“God doesn’t just do a paint job, he fixes things,” Carson said.
Carson also said that our Constitution was based on encouraging faith and limiting the scope of government. “If only we would follow it, we’d be just fine,” he said.
Carson was one of several presidential candidates at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Forum, according to Politico.
Also in attendance were Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, appearing before a hometown audience, as well as former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.
However, Politico said that Carson, who has made no secret of his Christian faith, was a favorite of the audience, noting that the neurosurgeon and pundit “showed off his distinctive appeal for evangelicals, some of whom came clutching copies of his books.”
