Man jumps White House fence as Obamas celebrate Thanksgiving Click to Tweet

A man has been arrested after jumping the fence at the White House and running onto the North Lawn while the First Family was inside celebrating Thanksgiving.

The White House was put into lockdown after the incident around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.

Secret Service agents quickly apprehended the man, identified as Joseph Caputo, though it’s unclear how far onto the property he got.

A man identified as Joseph Caputo is seen jumping the White House fence while wearing an American flag Thursday. Charges are pending.

A bystander snapped photos of Caputo, draped in an American flag, as he hopped the fence. A second photo shows the him with his arms raised as he walks on the lawn. He also had a binder of some sort clenched in his teeth as he made the leap.

“I heard him take a deep breath and whisper ‘alright let’s do this’ and went for it,” Vanessa Pena wrote on Twitter.

Joseph Caputo was arrested after jumping the fence at the White House and running onto the North Lawn while the President and his family were inside celebrating Thanksgiving.

“It was chaotic,” Pena later told the Associated press. “Everyone around us was yelling and kids were crying. It was pretty unexpected.”
